In the dead of night
The alarm bells sound
Outside there's howling snow
Somewhere the cries for help come in
We know that we must go
It's been said, we are a rare breed
A strong brotherhood throughout the Land
People find comfort, when at their darkest moments
As we say it's ok, while extending our hands
Some have asked "Why risk your life"
To help a total stranger
The question should be "Would you care who responded,
If your family was in danger
When that awful day comes when we lose one of our own
We turn our tear streaked faced to the sky
And ask the seemingly never answered question,
"Why LORD? Why?"
The void your absence has created
Will slowly shrink in size
As time passes our hurt will lessen
As we continue to save more lives.
Rest in Peace Lieutenant DeVoe
Your influence on all our lives is well known,
This time the hand being extended to console us
is none other then GOD'S very own.
